Each summer swim season the Wakefield Chapel Wahoo families bring an unrivaled spirit that makes WCRA the best swim club in the Northern Virginia Swim League!
Our Goal Create a fun, supportive environment where swimmers of all ages & abilities improve their swimming technique while embracing the enthusiastic, good sportsmanship of the Great Wahoo!
Swimmers The only requirement to participate? A child must be between the ages of four (4) & 18 on June 1 of the summer season. (NVSL eligibility rule.) Swimmers of varying ages & abilities are welcome age 4 to 18, advanced swimmers to those just learning the basics. There’s a place on this team for anyone age 4 to 18 who wants to swim! Don’t know how to swim yet? No problem. We have a large crew of capable coaches on deck & in the water, to help each swimmer develop their inner Wahoo.
How many other activities can your kid(s) participate in on the same team, with their siblings & neighborhood friends for 14 years?
During the short, fast summer swim season, Wahoos practice every weekday and compete in five NVSL Dual meets (Saturday mornings) & five Developmental Meets (Monday evenings). In addition to swim meets, we host MANY spirited Wahoo social activities including a team picnic, a pasta dinner, ice cream socials, pancake breakfasts, post-meet lunches, pep rallies, & more!
Volunteers Volunteers are the backbone of our neighborhood team. Wahoo parents must volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per swimmer, 20 hours for families with two or more swimmers, to support the team. Volunteers can support the team in many ways – on deck as a timer or official, organizing a social event, or working the snack bar for meets. It takes over 40 volunteers to time, officiate, & score ONE swim meet and over 450 different volunteer activities over the course of one summer season!
Volunteer sign up (events & meets) will be on wakefieldchapelswimteam.org, in late May, after swimmer registration is complete. Volunteering with the Wahoos is a great way to support your swimmer’s team experience and spend time with your neighbors!
